Sri Lanka's temples & the Maldives

Sri Lanka’s most well-known landmark, Sigiriya Rock proudly looms above central Sri Lanka’s plains, topped with the remains of a grand 5th-century palace. Radiant frescoes, huge stone carvings, and some of the world’s oldest landscaped gardens give a glimpse of its former grandeur.

Surrounded by tea plantations and a large lake at its heart, Kandy combines the sophistication of a modern city with the timeless appeal of sacred temples. Here, you can sample the markets’ local delicacies or cycle through verdant countryside.

High up in the hill country, Hattan is one of Sri Lanka’s first tea regions. Vast tea estates still carpet the countryside, interspersed with colonial-era plantations bungalows and walking trails. This is all overlooked by the hallowed Adam’s Peak, a focal point for pilgrims.

With its palm-fringed shores, turquoise waters, and pristine white beaches, the Maldives makes for an idyllic escape.
